The complete medical check-up is aimed at all age groups, from adolescence onwards. It is not necessary to have a family history or to be affected by a pathology to have a health check-up. Indeed, as explained above, the complete check-up is preventive: its aim is precisely to detect conditions whose symptoms are not yet visible in order to begin treating them in time.
Some health check-ups are aimed at specific populations as a priority. The preventive health check-up of the compulsory health insurance (EPS) , in particular, is intended primarily for people:
In a precarious situation with difficulty accessing healthcare facilities;
Not benefiting from regular medical monitoring carried out by a treating physician or excluded from prevention provision schemes.
You can take advantage of this even if you do not fall into these categories, but appointment options may be reduced and waiting times may be extended.
How much does a full health check-up cost?
Your social security fund fully covers the preventive health examination as well as the check-up carried out as part of the “My Prevention Assessment” program. You therefore have nothing to pay for these health check-ups.
When you go to your doctor for a complete health check-up, you pay the price of a consultation. Outside of the special Alsace-Moselle scheme and if you follow the coordinated care pathway, your compulsory health insurance fund will reimburse the consultation and the costs of additional analyses and examinations up to 60 or 70%. ( 4 ) Your mutual health insurance (or supplementary health insurance) will be able to pay the remaining portion, within the limits of the guarantees subscribed.
For private health centers that are not part of the contract, it is best to request a quote. The price of a complete health assessment or check-up varies greatly from one establishment to another and can be very high (up to more than €1,000 or €2,000 depending on the tests performed). ( 5 ) Your compulsory health insurance fund will not offer any reimbursement in this case.

A health check-up after 40 includes tests such as an eye examination (glaucoma screening, etc.), a cardiac assessment, cholesterol testing, or blood sugar monitoring.
What medical check-up should I do after the age of 60?
After age 60, the health check-up may include ophthalmological screenings (AMD, etc.), a thorough hearing assessment, colorectal cancer screening or even breast cancer screening for women.
When should you have a complete health check-up?
A complete health check-up is recommended, at a minimum, once in each of the following age groups: 18-25 years, 45-50 years, 60-65 years, 70-75 years. Do not hesitate to check with your doctor, during a visit to his office or during a teleconsultation , to determine the need for a periodic examination and the frequency of your health check-ups.
What to do after the medical check-up?
If any results are concerning and your health requires specific monitoring, you will need to make an appointment with your primary care physician. They can initiate treatment or refer you to specialists to further investigate the results. They can also recommend personalized follow-up to maintain your health (nutritional monitoring, gynecological monitoring, etc.).
